If you've started searching for a Generative Engine Optimization tool, you've probably noticed the category barely existed a year ago and the vendors in it vary wildly — in pricing, in approach, and in what they actually measure. We've spent the last few months testing nearly every GEO and AEO platform on the market. This guide is the comparison we wish had existed when we started.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) describe the same goal: making sure AI platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, and Microsoft Copilot recommend your business when customers ask questions. The category is moving fast and no two tools take the same approach, so the right choice depends on what you actually need to measure.
What to look for in a GEO tool
Before the individual reviews, here are the criteria that matter. Every tool claims AI visibility. Fewer deliver on the specifics.
Does it test real AI agent responses, or just score your site technically? Technical scoring (schema, structured data, crawlability) is a useful input. But the question you're actually asking is "does ChatGPT recommend me?" That requires running real prompts against real AI platforms and recording the answers.
One-time scan or ongoing monitoring? AI answers change as models get retrained, competitors publish new content, and discussions shift on Reddit, LinkedIn, and review sites. A monthly audit is better than nothing. Daily monitoring is what you actually want.
Does it show competitors? "You're not recommended" is a data point. "You're not recommended and here are the three businesses that are, with how often each appears and how that's trended over 30 days" is a roadmap.
Does it tell you why and how to fix it? Scores and dashboards are easy. Per-query diagnostics — "the AI considered you but rejected you because pricing wasn't discoverable" — paired with specific fixes are what move the number.
Does it support agencies? If you manage multiple clients, you need multi-site dashboards, white-label reports, and predictable per-site pricing. Most consumer SaaS GEO tools skip this entirely.
Is pricing transparent? If the pricing page says "contact sales," assume the tool is built for enterprise procurement, not for a founder or marketer who wants to try something this afternoon.
The tools
HubSpot AEO
HubSpot's AEO product tracks brand visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini with week-over-week trend data, prompt suggestions, citation analysis, and competitor comparison. A separate free AEO Grader produces a one-off score across sentiment, presence quality, brand recognition, share of voice, and market competition.
Key features:
- Free AEO Grader (one-off audit across five dimensions)
- Ongoing tracking on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini
- Prompt tracking and suggestions
- Citation analysis and competitor comparison
- Integrated with Marketing Hub Pro/Enterprise or sold standalone
Pricing: Free AEO Grader, standalone AEO $50/month ($45/month annual), Enterprise included in Marketing Hub Enterprise. Standalone is capped at 2,500 answers/month and 25 prompts/day.
Best for: HubSpot customers and SMBs who want affordable AI visibility tracking wired into an existing CRM/marketing stack.
Limitations: Coverage is ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini — no Claude, Microsoft Copilot, or Google AI Mode listed. Prompt and answer caps are tight at the $50 tier. Best value for teams already inside HubSpot.
Conductor
Conductor is an enterprise platform that has layered AEO/GEO features onto a mature SEO and content suite. Conductor Intelligence tracks visibility across ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Claude, and traditional search; Conductor Creator generates LLM-optimized content; Conductor Monitoring tracks 24/7 AI bot crawl behavior.
Key features:
- Unified AEO + SEO + content + site monitoring
- Tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Claude, and Google search
- 24/7 AI bot crawl monitoring with alerts
- Content generation tooling
- API, MCP server, turnkey agents
Pricing: Not published. Contact sales / demo request model. Third-party reports describe it as enterprise-range.
Best for: Large enterprises with dedicated SEO headcount and six-figure platform budgets who want AEO inside one unified suite.
Limitations: No transparent pricing, no self-serve signup, not a realistic fit for SMBs or solo marketers. AI visibility is one module among many rather than the core product.
Frase
Frase is an AI-first content optimization platform that has added AEO/GEO features alongside its SEO content workflows. The editor produces dual real-time scores — one for Google SEO, one for AI visibility — and the AI agent covers research, outlining, and drafting.
Key features:
- Dual SEO + GEO scoring in the editor
- AI visibility tracking across 2–8 platforms (tier-dependent)
- Site audits, SERP research, competitor analysis, brand voice profiles
- Bot and crawler analytics with alerts
- API and MCP access on all plans
Pricing: Starter $49/month (1 domain, 2 AI platforms). Professional $129/month (5 domains, 3 platforms). Scale $299/month (10 domains, 5 platforms). Enterprise custom (8 platforms, SSO, white-label). 20% off annual.
Best for: Content marketers and in-house SEO teams who want SEO and GEO guidance inside a single writing environment.
Limitations: AI visibility platform coverage is gated by tier — only 2 platforms on Starter. Article and audit caps can bind for high-volume publishers. Monitoring is lighter than purpose-built GEO tools.
Profound
Profound is a well-funded, enterprise-positioned GEO/AEO specialist that tracks brand presence across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Copilot. The platform is built around "Prompt Volumes" (what millions of people actually ask AI), Answer Engine Insights, and a set of autonomous agents for AEO, SEO, content, and PR tasks.
Key features:
- Multi-engine tracking (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot)
- Prompt volume analytics
- Autonomous agents for AEO, content, and comms tasks
- AI bot crawl analytics
- AEO-optimized FAQ generator
- Free one-off AEO report
Pricing: Not listed on the homepage. Third-party reviews report Starter $99/month (50 prompts, ChatGPT only), Growth $399/month (100 prompts, content generation), Enterprise $2,000–$5,000+/month.
Best for: Funded mid-market and enterprise brands that prioritize AI search visibility and can absorb the pricing.
Limitations: Pricing is only available via third-party reporting. Lower tiers have narrow platform coverage. Third-party reviews describe Profound as roughly 48% above category-average pricing.
Semrush
Semrush added an AI Visibility Toolkit to its long-standing SEO suite and extended Position Tracking to cover AI Overviews and AI Mode. For existing Semrush customers it means AI data sits next to keyword and backlink reports without switching tools.
Key features:
- AI Visibility Toolkit tracking ChatGPT Search, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Claude
- Position Tracking with AI Overviews and AI Mode
- Full SEO stack (keywords, backlinks, site audit, competitor research)
- Semrush One bundle unifying SEO authority and AI visibility
Pricing (third-party sources): Core Semrush from ~$139.95/month. AI Toolkit add-on +$99/month. Semrush One Starter $199/month, Pro+ $299/month, Advanced $549/month. 7-day free trial.
Best for: Existing Semrush users who want AI visibility alongside traditional SEO in one dashboard.
Limitations: AI features vary by plan tier. Reports of incomplete Claude and Perplexity tracking relative to specialized tools. Pricing not clearly rendered on the public pricing page at time of research.
Otterly.ai
Otterly.ai is a focused AI search monitoring tool for brand mentions, citations, and GEO performance across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Microsoft Copilot. It sits in the affordable-SaaS tier with transparent pricing.
Key features:
- Daily prompt monitoring
- Citation tracking for domains and URLs
- Brand reports: mentions, coverage, domain citations
- GEO audits with SWOT, competitor analysis, gap identification
- Keyword research for prompt discovery
- Google Looker Studio connector (Standard+)
Pricing: Lite $29/month (15 prompts), Standard $189/month (100 prompts), Premium $489/month (400 prompts), Enterprise custom. 15% annual discount. Google AI Mode and Gemini are paid add-ons ($9–$149/month).
Best for: SMB-to-mid-market marketers who want affordable prompt-level monitoring without a full platform.
Limitations: Google AI Mode and Gemini tracking cost extra on top of the base plan. The 15-prompt Lite tier is tight for any serious keyword set.
Peec AI
Peec AI is a Europe-based AI search analytics platform that tracks brand visibility, position, and sentiment across up to six or seven AI engines, with competitor benchmarking and regional breakdowns.
Key features:
- Tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews, Grok
- Visibility frequency, answer position, sentiment analysis
- Competitor benchmarking with regional breakdowns
- Exports, APIs, and Looker Studio connector
Pricing: Live pricing page does not display dollar amounts. Third-party reports list Starter ~€90/month, Pro ~€199/month, Advanced ~€499/month. Pricing is tier-gated by engine count.
Best for: European SEO and marketing teams needing multi-engine coverage with sentiment and regional analysis.
Limitations: Pricing not publicly displayed. Starter tier limited to three engines. Figures above come from third-party reviews and may be out of date.
Goodcontent.ai
We included Goodcontent.ai because it appears on multiple "best GEO tools" listicles, but at the time of writing the site is a pre-launch "Launching Soon" page with an email signup form. There is no live product, no public feature list, and no pricing.
Status: Pre-launch. Not evaluable. We'd recommend treating any third-party directory claims about Goodcontent as unverified until the product ships.
AgenticLens
AgenticLens is the GEO platform we built because nothing on the market combined real query testing, daily monitoring, per-query diagnostics, hosting-aware fix recommendations, and agency-ready reporting at a price SMBs could stomach. The flow is deliberately simple: paste your URL, get a full scan in 60 seconds, decide whether what you see is worth paying to monitor.
Key features:
- Free AI visibility scan — 0–100 score plus letter grade, no signup
- Subscores for query performance, site structure, and content quality
- Auto-detection of business category, services, location, and audience
- Schema, metadata, and technical audit with severity-ranked triage
- Per-query "why wasn't I recommended" diagnostics with actionable fixes
- Daily AI agent checks, competitor leaderboards, real-time alerts
- 52-week score history and trend tracking
- Weekly auto-rescans plus manual on-demand rescans
- White-label reports and multi-site dashboards for agencies
- Dedicated Shopify app for merchant-specific optimization
Pricing: Starter $29.99/month (1 site, bi-daily monitoring, 4 manual rescans). Growth $79.99/month (5 sites, daily monitoring, 20 manual rescans, competitor diagnostics). Agency $199/month (20 sites included, $10/site thereafter, white-label, 100 monthly rescans). Free scan with no account required.
Best for: SMBs, local businesses, Shopify merchants, and agencies who want transparent pricing, per-query diagnostics, and white-label reporting without an enterprise contract.
Limitations: AgenticLens currently lists ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode as tracked engines — if tracking Claude or Microsoft Copilot is mission-critical today, Conductor or Profound cover more surface area.

Which one should you pick?
If you're deep in HubSpot, HubSpot AEO is the path of least resistance.
If you're an enterprise with a six-figure platform budget, Conductor or Profound are both credible.
If your workflow is content-first, Frase puts SEO and GEO scoring in the same editor.
If you're already on Semrush, the AI Visibility Toolkit is a reasonable add-on.
If you need the cheapest prompt-level monitoring, Otterly.ai's Lite tier is hard to beat, with the caveat that Google AI Mode and Gemini cost extra.
If you're in Europe and want sentiment + regional data, Peec AI is worth evaluating — just expect pricing conversations by email.
If you want real query testing, daily monitoring, per-query diagnostics, hosting-aware fixes, agency white-label reports, and transparent pricing in one tool, AgenticLens is what we built. The free scan runs in 60 seconds and doesn't ask for an account, so you can see whether there's a gap worth fixing before you pay anyone.
